Florida lawmakers have agreed on spending plans for the Florida Forever conservation program during negotiations for a new state budget. According to a story from the News Service of Florida, in a deal announced late Friday, House Appropriations Chairman Carlos Trujillo, R-Miami, and Senate Appropriations Chairman Rob Bradley, R-Fleming Island, said the state will provide more than $100 million in the 2018-2019 budget year to Florida Forever, the state’s major land-buying program. Aliki Moncrief, executive director of the Florida Conservation Voters, said the decision “will breathe life” back into the program, while urging lawmakers to look for a longer-term commitment.
