Everett Griner talks about water war between New Mexico and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, and the war between Florida and Georgia in today’s Agri View. Both may be coming to a close with settlements being made in both cases.
Water Wars Coming to Close
Well, the water wars are coming to a close. The courts are settling them. In one of the longest, the federal court has decided that the New Mexico ranchers have a right to the water in the Lincoln National Forest to water their livestock.
Their legal struggle was with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. This fight has been going on for nearly thirty-five years. There is one further appeal that could be made, but it looks like the challenge is going to end here.
But now the longest water fight between Florida and Georgia will be settled by our country’s highest court. Incidentally, you may have heard that decision before you hear this. Anyway, the original water-fight included Alabama. But Alabama dropped out several years ago. Leaving Florida and Georgia to hassle all the way to the United States Supreme Court. That is where the issue is now, and, you may heard their decision by the time you hear this.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
