Dairy States Need Strong NAFTA

dairyTrade, and improving trade, is critically important for the U.S. dairy industry, especially in Wisconsin. U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, a democrat from Wisconsin, says trade is vitally important to all sectors of the U.S. economy, including dairy, but the U.S. needs fair trade agreements. Baldwin says the Trump administration needs to double down its efforts to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement.

If the Trump administration chooses to withdraw from the agreement, she says there are things that the Senate could do to put pressure on, or retaliate against the administration, but the Senate can’t necessarily reverse the action.

Wisconsin dairy producers are demanding Canada change a policy that is harming U.S. producers. However, Canada is refusing to touch the issue in the NAFTA talks. Baldwin says there are many ways to address the issue with Canada.
