In today’s program, Cathy Isom has tips about lettuce, giving us some easy to grow dark, leafy greens. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.
Dark, leafy greens are likely the best part of any dietary plan. Thanks to the goodness they can provide from a kick of protein to fiber and calcium. Buying a small rubber band’s worth of organic kale, or spinach can be somewhat expensive. So to save a few cents or more, it makes sense to grow your own. Especially when we hear the word easy. Just by using pots around the house, it is possible to grow a lot of these lettuce varieties, such as Prickly Lettuce, Shepherd’s Purse, Miner’s Lettuce, Purple Dead, Nettle, Chickweed, and Dock.
Not familiar? You might want to do your homework because depending on where you live, you might find some of these greens for absolutely free by foraging for them. Some wild lettuces are often found on hiking trails, or parks and are camouflaged or surrounded by weeds. Who doesn’t like to eat for free?
