USDA released its August Cattle on Feed report last Friday afternoon, and as of August 1, the number of cattle and calves on feed for the U.S. slaughter market was 10.6 million head, 4 percent above August 1, 2016. But according to a story from Gary Crawford, the report had a small surprise for some market analysts when it came to placement numbers.
