Everett Griner talks about losses suffered by producers during the last winter storm in today’s Agri View.
Let me see if I can put this in more realistic terms for you to understand. Say you make so much money per month. You work 12 months. You add up your total salary for the year. Not bad! But suppose you didn’t get paid for 8 of those months. You would have to make it on just 4 months pay for the year. No, that doesn’t happen. Well, it did. That is the way 2017 will be for peach farmers in Georgia. They lost about 80 percent of their crops to that late winter freeze. If you put that in dollars and cents, it is about 300 million dollars. You hear me? Now there are more losses in neighboring South Carolina. Losses were even higher. South Carolina growers lost over 80 percent of their crop. And the rest of the story. It is expected to be even costlier when the blueberry farmers total up their losses from that same winter storm.
See how lucky you are?
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
