Agri View: Busy as a Bee

Dan Agri View

busy beeEverett Griner talks about what being “busy as a bee” means in today’s Agri View.

For the last 10 years, we have covered the bee problem pretty thoroughly. That is all of the bad stuff. Well, what about the good stuff? Well, we know what ‘busy as a bee’ means. But, you know, few people understand how busy a bee really can be. Pollinating blooms, collecting nectar. That is the general conception of a bees day. When they aren’t collecting nectar, they are cleaning the hives, building the cone, nursing the young, protecting the hive, keeping it warm or cool, storing food, caring for the queen. Now, that is just a partial list of what keeps a bee busy. In addition to collecting nectar, they have to search for their own food and water. That effort takes half of their time. So, the next time you hear someone use the term ‘busy as a bee’ be assured that it is a special term, but, they really don’t know what it means.

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
