Coming up Saturday, June 24th, an event will be held in Gainesville, Florida that farmers and ranchers from across the Southeast are invited to attend. It’s being called, “The Next Farm Bill, Conversations in the Field.”
The event is actually an informal farm bill hearing, intended to gather input from farmers, ranchers, and stakeholders. House Agriculture Committee Chairman Michael Conaway of Texas and Ranking Member Collin Peterson from Minnesota will host it, the first of several committee activities across the country intended to stimulate conversation.
Chairman Conaway in a statement said, “When it comes to writing farm bills, the House Agriculture Committee has a long history of getting out of Washington and speaking with the folks these policies are intended to serve. I’m looking forward to these events, and I encourage farmers, ranchers, and other stakeholders to join us.”
Ranking Member Peterson said, “Getting out of Washington and hearing directly from farmers and others impacted by farm bill programs is necessary to write a good farm bill. I’m looking forward to these events to help us get a better idea of how these programs are actually working, which will be beneficial as we look to potential changes in the next bill.”
“The Next Farm Bill, Conversations in the Field,” a committee listening session, will take place in Gainesville, Florida on Saturday, June 24th starting at 10:00 am Eastern at the Emerson Alumni Hall (pictured above) at the University of Florida. For those who can’t attend, Southeast AgNet will stream the audio live on its website, southeastagnet.com.
