Ahead of the next farm bill, House Agriculture Committee Chairman K. Michael Conaway (TX-11) and Ranking Member Collin Peterson (MN-7) announced the first of several committee activities across the country intended to stimulate conversation and gather input from farmers, ranchers, and stakeholders. “The Next Farm Bill, Conversations in the Field,” a committee listening session, will take place in Gainesville, Florida on June 24, 2017. Upon announcement of the listening session, the chairman and ranking member made the following remarks:
“When it comes to writing farm bills, the House Agriculture Committee has a long history of getting out of Washington and speaking with the folks these policies are intended to serve. I’m looking forward to these events, and I encourage farmers, ranchers, and other stakeholders to join us,” said Chairman Conaway.
“Getting out of Washington and hearing directly from farmers and others impacted by farm bill programs is necessary to write a good farm bill. I’m looking forward to these events to help us get a better idea of how these programs are actually working, which will be beneficial as we look to potential changes in the next bill,” said Ranking Member Peterson.
