Everett Griner talks about eradication of the Asian Citrus Psyllid in today’s Agri View.
Download Citrus Disease Eradication
One of the greatest successes in the history of agriculture was the eradication of the boll weevil. It wasn’t easy. It took a lot of time and cost a lot of money. But any cotton farmer will tell you it was worth every penny. Now another insect has taken over. Not in cotton. In citrus fruit production. Florida citrus industry is doing all it can to halt the destruction. But it seems the states citrus producers are fighting a losing battle. The disease caused by the imported Asian Citrus Psyllid continues to destroy thousands of acres of Florida’s citrus groves. The whole industry keeps fighting the disease. Progress is being made but it seems the end is not yet in sight. Growers, processors, marketers and the entire industry know that if it can be done with the boll weevil it can be done to the citrus psyllid. If the money holds out. And, I guess it will.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner.
