Enlist Duo® Herbicide Registered by U.S. EPA for Use on Enlist™ Cotton
Enlist Duo® herbicide now is registered for use in 34 states on Enlist™ cotton, soybeans and corn
Cotton growers are now one step closer to complete access to the most innovative weed control technology available. Enlist Duo® herbicide has received federal registration for use on Enlist™ cotton, which will allow growers to use an additional mode of action postemergence. For 2017, the Enlist cotton trait will be available exclusively in PhytoGen® cottonseed.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has expanded the use of Enlist Duo herbicide to include Enlist cotton after previously registering this technology for use on Enlist corn and Enlist soybeans in 15 states. In addition, the EPA broadened the geography for application of Enlist Duo to 34 states. This covers a vast majority of the cotton, corn and soybean acres in the United States.
For cotton growers who are facing tough-to-control weeds, once state registrations are received, this registration means they’ll have access to the full benefits of the Enlist™ weed control system starting in the 2017 season, including postemergence applications of Enlist Duo herbicide — a combination of glyphosate and new 2,4-D choline — as well as glufosinate. Tolerance to these three modes of action offers growers more flexibility and better performance in their weed control programs.
Growers see immediate benefits
Growers who have planted PhytoGen cottonseed with the Enlist trait report impressive performance, including solid yields.
“The PhytoGen cotton with the Enlist trait yielded even better than expected,” says Bradley Moore, a Tennessee grower. “It out yielded the other varieties around it by about 100 pounds.”
The strength of the Enlist trait is that it gives growers the ability to handle tough-to-control weeds that have been infesting cotton fields across the Cotton Belt.
“Southern growers deal with some of the most difficult weeds, including Palmer amaranth, marestail and giant ragweed,” says John Chase, Enlist commercial leader. “Cotton growers now can use multiple modes of action that deliver proven results, controlling even glyphosate-resistant weeds in the field.”
In the United States, more than 90 million acres are infested with resistant and hard-to-control weeds.1 Growers are searching for solutions that are effective and easy to use.
In addition to controlling weeds, Enlist Duo stays on target. Enlist Duo® herbicide features Colex-D® technology, which provides four key benefits:
Minimized potential for physical drift: Compared with a tank mix of traditional 2,4-D and glyphosate, Enlist Duo herbicide with Colex-D technology reduces physical drift by up to 90 percent when applied with a low-drift nozzle.
Near-zero volatility: With new 2,4-D choline, volatility is reduced by 96 percent compared with 2,4-D ester.
Low odor
Improved handling characteristics
Expanding the geography
In addition to allowing the use of Enlist Duo on Enlist™ cotton, the EPA action expands the use of Enlist Duo on Enlist corn and Enlist soybeans to 19 additional states for a total of 34 states. Once all necessary state registrations are received, growers in the following states will have access to this groundbreaking technology on cotton, soybeans and corn that contain the Enlist trait:
Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

The Enlist™ cotton trait will be available this spring in a number of high-yielding PhytoGen® brand varieties. This technology is stacked with Genuity® Roundup Ready® Flex and WideStrike® 3 Insect Protection to give growers season-long control of above-ground insects with industry-leading 3-gene protection.
“I’m excited about Enlist because it will bring multiple modes of action to our farm,” says Jonathan Mann, a Georgia cotton grower. “We will use Enlist as a tool to help us be more efficient on our farm.”
Dow AgroSciences is fully prepared to launch Enlist corn and Enlist soybeans upon receipt of pending import approvals.
