Surveys of Citrus Leafminer Phyllocnistis citrella and Native Parasitoids in Tulare County and Pheromone Disruption Studies
LAKE ALFRED, Florida. On June 11, 2010, UF/IFAS, Citrus Research and Education Center, Ben Hill Griffin, Jr. Citrus Hall will host Dr. Saida Slimane Kharrat, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Sciences, Bizerte, University of Carthago, Tunis, Tunisia. Dr. Kharrat will present her seminar entitled “Surveys of Citrus Leafminer Phyllocnistis citrella and Native Parasitoids in Tulare County and Pheromone Disruption Studies.” The seminar is open to the public with doors open at 10:45 a.m. and the seminar beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Dr. Kharrat received her M.S. with distinction in 1997, and her Ph.D. in 2004 in entomology from the University of Tunis II, Tunisia. In 2000, she was a visiting researcher at University of California, Riverside working with Drs. Robert Luck and John Heraty on a join project entitled “Native Parasites for the Biological Control of Citrus Leafminer.” In addition to her research and studies (1994-2004), Dr. Kharrat was also a high school biology teacher at El Menzah, Tunis, Tunisia.
In 2006, Dr. Kharrat left her teaching position and accepted a position as an Assistant Professor, University of Carthago, Tunisia. Dr. Kharrat is currently working with Dr. Beth Grafton-Cardwell at Kearney Agricultural Center on a CLM project and looks forward to presenting their research in this seminar.
