Citrus growers attending Friday morning “crop forecast” breakfasts around Florida broke into smiles when a 136-million-box orange crop forecast was announced. That much-lower-than-expected number should increase the prices growers receive and reduce excess orange juice inventories that put a damper on grower returns long term. In the first report here, Southeast AgNet’s Ernie Neff provides the forecasts for all Florida citrus varieties. In the second report, growers Larry Black (photo right), Mark Wheeler (left) and Jim Ellis (not pictured) tell why they’re happy about the forecast.
