Last Thursday, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Andrew Wheeler and Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works R.D. James announced a new, clear definition for “waters of the United States.” Today, a special news conference was held in Atlanta, Georgia, to deliver more information about the Navigable Waters Protection Rule.
Region 4 EPA Administrator Mary Walker said this rule really establishes a clear and legally defensible definition of waters of the U.S.
The Navigable Waters Protection Rule ends decades of uncertainty over where federal jurisdiction begins and ends. More information, including a pre-publication version of the Federal Register notice and fact sheets, is available at https://www.epa.gov/nwpr.
