Saturday, June 24th, an event was held in Gainesville, Florida that farmers and ranchers from across the Southeast were invited to attend. It’s is called, “The Next Farm Bill, Conversations in the Field.”
The event was an informal farm bill hearing, intended to gather input from farmers, ranchers, and stakeholders. House Agriculture Committee Chairman Michael Conaway of Texas and Ranking Member Collin Peterson from Minnesota host the session, the first of several committee activities across the country intended to stimulate conversation.
Audio coverage of “The Next Farm Bill, Conversations in the Field.” is available for your listening.
Following the listening session, Chairman Conaway made the below remarks:
“No one has better insight into what is and isn’t working in U.S. agricultural policy than our farmers and ranchers. Writing the farm bill is a big task, with a lot of moving parts – and it’s vitally important we get the policy right. The best way to do that is by getting out of D.C. and hearing from the folks this legislation impacts. I appreciated today’s productive conversation with producers and stakeholders in Florida, Georgia and surrounding areas and look forward to continuing the discussion with producers across the country as we work to craft the next farm bill.”
