Everett Griner talks about the impact of a German giant opening new supermarkets in today’s Agri View.

By now, the first of some one-hundred supermarkets owned by a German grocery giant should be open in the United States. When all of the one-hundred stores are open it is going to make a lot of difference to a lot of east coast shoppers. There will ultimately by twenty such stores. Primarily in the Carolinas and Virginia. Now, the company claims it will be able to save shoppers up to 50 percent of their grocery bill. The company operates about 10,000 stores throughout Europe. The plan is to build stores of at least 20,000 square feet. And, they promise the shopping will be simple and easy. I suppose the food supplies they will carry will be all American. Anyway, economically this is going to create 5,000 new jobs. Nothing wrong with that. But, to save shoppers 50 percent on their grocery list is a promise that most Americans will believe when they see it.

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
