Many farmers are making plans as to what crops to plant this spring, and because of that, the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) is starting their efforts to collect information about those plans. NASS is mailing out survey questionnaires asking producers to provide information about the crops they intend to plant in 2022, how many acres they intend to plant, and the amounts of grain and oilseed stored on their farms.

NASS Chief of the Crops Branch, Lance Honig, says the prospective plantings report will help reduce speculation and give the markets a better idea of the upcoming crop.

Collecting Planting Intentions Information

NASS encourages producers to respond online at agcounts.usda.gov or by mail. Those who do not respond online or by mail may be contacted for a telephone interview.

As with all NASS surveys, information provided by respondents is confidential.

Results from this survey will be released on March 31, 2022.
