The three sessions’ days and locations are as follows

Aug. 24 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; Decatur County Extension Office; 101 B Ag Lane, Bainbridge, Georgia 39817

Aug. 26 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; Bulloch County Extension Office; 151 Langston Chapel Road, Suite 600, Statesboro, Georgia 30458

Aug. 30 10 a.m. to noon; Tift County Extension Office; 1468 Carpenter Road South, Tifton, Georgia 31794

The listening sessions precede congressional listening sessions, says Don Koehler, executive director of the Georgia Peanut Commission, which is hosting the sessions.

“We wanted to give our farmers an opportunity to tell us the things that are right, if there’s any concerns that they have or things they think would improve the peanut program,” Koehler said. “The farm bill hearings will start maybe later this year but certainly in early 2022.

“It’s just an opportunity for farmers to come and give us an idea of things they think might improve the program, things that are right about the program, so that as we move forward formulating policy and going into these congressional hearings that we have the desires of the farmers on top of mind.”
