Registration is ongoing for the Southern Peanut Growers Conference, scheduled for July 15-17 at the Edgewater Beach and Golf Resort in Panama City Beach, Florida.

The Southern Peanut Farmers Federation returns for its annual in-person conference after having last year’s event cancelled amid COVID-19.

Georgia Peanut Commission Executive Director Don Koehler discusses the significance of this event held every summer.

“The reason we started this conference was to have an opportunity to educate farmers in the Southeast on issues that they might not get at another meeting somewhere or see in the popular press,” Koehler said.

Conference Topics

Some of the issues that will be in the spotlight include the future of peanut value and improving the grading system. An entire segment will highlight farm automation with multiple speakers, including the University of Georgia’s Wes Porter, sharing their vision for farm automation in the future.

There will also be a State of U.S. Peanut Policy seminar that includes Arkansas Senator John Boozman, the ranking member on the Senate Ag Committee. A peanut policy listening session will include leadership from Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi asking farmers what the critical trends are moving forward.

The deadline to register is June 30. Click here to register.
