Planting of cotton and peanut seed continues across the Southeast. The USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) notes the number of acres planted are close to the 5-year averages in most cases. But USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says there are cotton planting delays in the some of the wetter states.

Rippey says there was a net improvement in overall cotton conditions.

In Alabama, 95% of the cotton crop has been planted, which compares to 95% last year, and 92% is the 5-year average; 92% of the peanut crop has been planted, which compares to 89% last year and the 5-year average is 87%.

In Florida, only 71% of the cotton crop has been planted, which compares to 87% last year, and 85% is the 5-year average; 95% of the peanut crop has been planted, which compares to 96% last year and the 5-year average of 93%.

In Georgia, 89% of the cotton crop has been planted, which compares to 86% last year, and 86% is the 5-year average; 93% of the peanut crop has been planted, which compares to 91% last year and the 5-year average of 91%.
