All ballots must be postmarked by April 16.

According to the Georgia Peanut Commission, state law mandates a referendum be held every three years. Georgia peanut farmers invest $2 per ton to fund the commission and its initiatives that include research, education, promotion and communication programs.

“We certainly hope that they have a lot of support for the programs that we’re doing with research, promotion and educational activities. We trust that they do, that’s what I hear from farmers that they are pretty pleased with the things that we have going on,” GPC Executive Director Don Koehler said. “But we still think that they need to have the voice to do that. We encourage all farmers to turn in a ballot.”

The last referendum was passed in 2018 with a 94.02% reaffirmation.

Koehler said farmers can contact the Georgia Peanut Commission to receive a ballot.

“We want to make sure a farmer receives a ballot, that they contact us and we get them a ballot,” Koehler said.
