As the Covid-19 vaccination process continues across the county, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) noted food and agriculture workers were among the 30 million frontline essential workers who should be in line for the vaccine. Over the past few weeks, individual states have begun to include this segment in their vaccination programs and that includes Alabama.

According to the Alabama Farmers Federation, Governor Kay Ivey has confirmed that food and agricultural workers will receive priority access to the COVID-19 vaccine starting Feb. 8. This is part of the Alabama Department of Public Health Phase 1b distribution, which includes people over the age of 75 and non-healthcare frontline essential workers.

In guidance issued by the CDC, workers in the food and agriculture, grocery store, and manufacturing industries have been designated as frontline essential workers, who are set to be vaccinated in Phase 1b.

The Alabama Farmers Federation sent a letter to Gov. Ivey on January 15th urging agriculture’s inclusion in the Phase 1b rollout. The Federation applauds her swift response, which will help protect critical workers in the food supply chain.
