November is Peanut Butter Lovers Month in Georgia. The Georgia Peanut Commission worked throughout the month to promote peanuts and the various dishes people can make using one of the top row crops in the state, according to Joy Crosby, director of communications at the Georgia Peanut Commission.

“For the month of November, the Peanut Commission has tried to do a lot of things to reach people, whether it was through digital or television or radio or even billboards in the Atlanta area because a lot of our events that we would attend have been cancelled or postponed where we would have the opportunity to reach consumers face to face. We had to look at alternative ways,” Crosby said.

The Georgia Peanut Commission even partnered with Power 96.1 in Atlanta to promote peanuts through a “Pick Your Pie” competition. People voted online for their favorite peanut pie.

“We’re excited to team up with them and promote the pie contest and really connect consumers to farm families and see how the farm families that are growing the peanuts are using peanuts and peanut butter in their everyday dishes with their family,” Crosby said.

Georgia Top Producer of Peanuts

According to the University of Georgia Extension, Georgia is the No. 1 producer of peanuts in the U.S. Georgia peanut farmers provide more than 45% of the U.S. crop each year. Georgia peanuts produce a farm gate value of more than $600 million.
