While early last week we saw decent weather conditions for cotton and peanut harvest conditions, USDA Meteorologist Brad Rippey says rains from Hurricane Zeta slowed that progress. And he notes the states where wet weather hampered cotton harvest again.
And Rippey has the latest look at the nation’s peanut harvest.
In Alabama, cotton harvest was only 40% complete, while last year it was at 68% and the 5-year average is 64%. As for the peanut harvest, 87% had been dug, which compares to 94% last year. 76% had been harvested which compares to 89% last year and the 5-year average is 82%.
In Florida, cotton harvest was only 16% complete, while last year it was at 39%, and the 5-year average is 37%. As for the peanut harvest, 93% had been dug, which compares to 99% last year and the 5-year average of 98%. 83% percent had been harvested, which compares to 94% last year and the 5-year average is 92%.
In Georgia, cotton harvested was at 39%, which compares to 64% last year and the 5-year average of 54%. As for the peanut harvest, 84% had been dug which compares to 94% last year and the 5-year average of 91%. Peanuts harvested were at 67%, which compares to 87% last year and the 5-year average of 80%.
