A well-respected and world-renowned plant pathologist at the University of Georgia Tifton campus will be recognized at this year’s D.W. Brooks Lecture on Nov. 10.

Bob Kemerait will receive the D.W. Brooks Faculty Award for Excellence in Global Programs as part of the event, which will start at 3:30 p.m. The event is part of the UGA Signature Lecture Series.

Kemerait, a professor in the Department of Plant Pathology, has been a leader in USAID-funded projects to improve peanut production among small-scale farmers in Guyana, Haiti and the Philippines. He recently received a Fulbright award to work with faculty and farmers in the northern Philippines.

The D.W. Brooks Lecture Series and Faculty Awards for Excellence (https://dwbrooks.caes.uga.edu/) are named for a Georgian whose contributions to agriculture are respected worldwide. Each year, UGA names five award of excellence winners.

“The UGA Tifton Campus family celebrates with Dr. Kemerait on winning the 2020 D.W. Brooks Faculty Award for Excellence in Global Programs. Dr. Kemerait brings an unparalleled level of professionalism and problem-solving ability to his work with Georgia growers and international peanut producers. We are so fortunate that he is a member of our faculty,” said Michael Toews, assistant dean of the UGA Tifton campus.
