U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue made various stops in South Alabama and Northwest Florida to tour agricultural areas that were damaged by Hurricane Sally. He also hosted a roundtable discussion with local farmers who were impacted. In comments to the media, Perdue said he saw crops that have been cut in half.

Perdue was joined by various state legislators and officials at each stop, and by Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture Rick Pate. In a phone interview with Southeast AgNet’s Randall Weiseman, Pate discussed the damage they saw.

The tour included stops at cotton and peanut fields, along with a pecan growing operation and a horticulture operation. More about Perdue’s stop in Florida can be found at agnewswire.com.
