Various farm groups were in Washington D.C. Wednesday to offer their support for a climate bill that would give farmers access to carbon offset markets. During a Senate Agriculture Committee hearing, discussion centered around the Growing Climate Solutions Act, which would create a certification program at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to help solve technical barriers to participation in carbon credit markets for farmers and forest landowners. Gary Crawford has more details.

The bill would also provide the Agriculture Secretary with an advisory council of agriculture experts, scientists, producers and others, to ensure the certification program works for all participants.
