For the most part, planting progress is comparable to the previous five years. USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey has the latest look at cotton planting numbers across the belt.
But Rippey says peanut planting progress is slightly behind the average.
In Alabama, 20% of the cotton crop has been planted, which compares to 22% last year, and 21% is the 5-year average. For the peanut crop, 15% has been planted, which compares to 14% last year. The 5-year average is 16%.
In Florida, 9% of the cotton crop has been planted, which compares to 9% last year, and 11% is the 5-year average. For the peanut crop, 28% has been planted, which compares to 30% last year, and the 5-year average of 25%.
In Georgia, 13% of the cotton crop has been planted, which compares to 20% last year, and 15% is the 5-year average. For the peanut crop, 13% has been planted, which compares to 22% last year, and the 5-year average is 18%.
