What to Plant in a Hanging Basket Garden

Having a hanging basket garden is ideal for having your own fruits and veggies at arm’s reach. It’s also a space saver, and works well on balconies and smaller patios.

Some crops that will do very well in hanging baskets include:  Cherry Tomatoes, Leaf Lettuce, Strawberries, Peas, Peppers, Spinach, Cucumbers, Parsley, Radishes, and Baby carrots.

What you should avoid when planning out your hanging basket garden is any heavy crop. Don’t look at the size of the plant but the size of the crop it will produce. Root vegetables are not favorable for hanging baskets since they require more grow space beneath them.  And tall crops simply won’t work in baskets.

If the plant will reach the roof the basket is hanging from, it’s not a good candidate. Instead, move those plants into containers.
