Memorial Day Weekend Picnic Planning Tips

With just a couple of days left until one of the biggest outdoor grilling days of the year, not to mention, it’s also long three day holiday weekend. You will want to make sure you check these important items off of your picnic planning to do list.

food thermometerFor grilling hamburgers, steaks or chicken, don’t forget the meat thermometer. Burgers should be cooked to 155 degrees, steaks 145 degrees, and chicken 165 degrees.

Add hand sanitizer to the list and plenty of paper towels. These will come in handy, especially if preparing or handling foods that could potentially carry bacteria.

Always have plenty of ice on hand and extra room in your insulated cooler if foods need to stay chilled. A good rule of thumb is to never leave items out at room temperature for more than 2 hours. Separate coolers should be used to store ready-to-eat foods (like fruit), away from raw meat.

Have extra utensils and multiple dishes on hand to avoid cross contamination.
