Celebrating One of the Most Loved Pastas
There’s a good chance you may have had spaghetti a time or two in your life. But if you haven’t, you may want to give it a try on National Spaghetti Day which is recognized every January 4th. On this day, people all over the world celebrate this dish by feeding their families their favorite version of it.
The word spaghetti is plural for the Italian word spaghetto, which is a diminutive of spago, meaning “thin string” or “twine.” Usually made from semolina flour, this pasta has been a worldwide favorite for ages and served in a variety of ways from spaghetti a-la Carbonara or garlic and oil to spaghetti with tomato sauce, meat sauce, bolognese, Alfredo sauce, clam sauce and many others. Pasta existed for thousands of years before anyone figured out it goes well with tomato sauce. in the year 2000, 1.3 million pounds of spaghetti were sold in American grocery stores? If all of those packages were lined up, they would circle the Earth nine times!
