Improving water quality and how it is stored is a priority for Brandon Tucker. He is a newly appointed board member of the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), which covers St. Lucie County to Monroe County.

Tucker, a resident of Palm City for the last 20 years, works in the agricultural real estate business.

Improving water quality and storage north of Lake Okeechobee will have a positive effect on other waterbodies, including the Caloosahatchee River, St. Lucie River and the Indian River Lagoon, Tucker says.

Working to make a positive impact on the water resources in the area will be a team effort between Tucker and other members of the SFWMD board and staff.

To help make the improvements, Tucker says, “We need to get our federal partners in Washington to step up to the plate and put their fair share of the money in, which they have not been doing over the years.”

In educating the public on debating ideologies, Tucker says he believes common sense and good science will help people understand the truth.

Tucker believes farmers and ranchers are some of the best people to take care of the land. “You know, you want those people that are working that land, taking care of the land, because it’s their future and their kids’ and their grandkids’ future,” he says.

Tucker discusses how the water management districts previously had agriculture teams within them, which he says he hopes to bring back to strengthen relations between the district and the agriculture community.

“The South Florida Water Management District looks forward to working with everybody in the ag community,” Tucker concludes.
