Key findings for the Southern Region:

southern regionAvocados: Florida’s utilized production is down 13 percent from 2015 and the associated value of production is down 7 percent. The Laurel Wilt disease continues to have a negative impact on Florida avocado groves.

Blueberries: The value of utilized production for the United States is commissionerdown 13 percent for 2016. Georgia’s utilized production is down 17 percent from 2015 and the associated value of production is down 15 percent. Florida’s value decreased 35 percent. Beginning in 2016, blueberry estimates were discontinued in Alabama.

georgia peach cropPeaches: The 2016 value of utilized production for the United States is up 4 percent from 2015. Alabama’s 2016 value is down 26 percent from the previous year’s value. Georgia’s value increased 20 percent. South Carolina’s value of utilized production is up 6 percent from 2015.

healthyPecans: The value of utilized production for the United States is up 24 percent for 2016. Alabama’s 2016 value is up 16 percent from last year. Georgia, which accounts for 41 percent of the Nation’s pecan production, saw a 36 percent increase in value of production in 2016. Beginning in 2016, pecan estimates were discontinued in Florida and South Carolina.
