Agri View: Autonomous Tractors

Dan Agri View

Everett Griner talks about the self-driving tractors that have arrived in today’s Agri View.

That self-driving tractor we have been hearing about was actually on display at the last farm progress show. I didn’t see it, but I got a picture of it. It looks more like a giant turtle than it does a tractor. There’s no superstructure above the 80 giant wheels it rolls on. It didn’t have an implement attached, so I couldn’t tell the front from the rear. But I can assure it is going to work. You are likely to see them doing work by themselves in just a couple of years. Actually it does have a compartment for an operator somewhere — I suppose to manage the equipment it is pulling. Those machines are complicated. I can’t even tell you how many functions they will perform. And they will cost a lot of money. But they are coming. No. They are here already. It is just a matter of time.

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner.
