For 2016, the value of utilized production for U.S. vegetable crops was $13.4 billion. Tomatoes, head lettuce, and onions claimed the highest values, accounting for 32 percent of the 2016 total value when combined.
Florida ranked third nationally in value of utilized production with 8.9 percent of the U.S. total. Florida was the leading producer in value of utilized production for snap beans, cucumbers, and watermelon as well as the second leading for sweet corn, bell peppers, squash, strawberries, and tomatoes. Georgia lead the Nation in spring onion value of production.
Many significant changes were made to the vegetable estimating program beginning in 2016. Based on these changes, states included in the publication tables for a given commodity may have changed from previous years. Additionally, all States in the estimating program for a given vegetable crop now estimate both fresh and processing utilization. Estimates for 2014 and 2015 were not adjusted to meet new program definitions.
