Whenever you hear Chia, you might instantly think of those terra-cotta figurines that sprout greens in a matter of weeks. It’s true, those same seeds used with those cute gift ideas are the same ones gaining popularity as a superfood. So it’s no surprise this super seed gets its very own National Chia Day on March 23rd.  Chia seeds come from a flowering plant in the mint family that’s native to Mexico and Guatemala. They’ve become a trusted staple for people around the world and can be enjoyed in many foods and beverages. In just two tablespoons, the mighty chia seeds contain 10 grams of fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, protein and minerals. When eaten dry, chia tastes a bit like a poppy seed. You can sprinkle them on salads, sandwiches, yogurt or in soup. Chia absorbs 9-12 times its weight in water and can make a delicious tapioca-like pudding. Or, use them to sprout into micro greens. They’re similar to alfalfa in taste and texture.

How to observe National Chia Day:

Add chia to your diet on this day (and every day) to enjoy the strength and vitality that these seeds bring to your life. Start your day with chia granola, power through the day with chia bars, and enjoy chia beverages anytime. Celebrate every meal by adding chia! Post on social media using #NationalChiaDay.
