Super Consumption Bowl

consumptionRemember the New Year’s resolution we all made about holding to our diet this year. Super Bowl weekend is no different. The consumption of calories during this one weekend is shocking. Cathy Isom explains to us why we may want to keep a scorecard of our calorie count on Super Bowl Sunday. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.

According to the USDA, Super Bowl Sunday comes in second place behind Thanksgiving  when it comes to Americans eating the most food in a single day.

The average person’s caloric intake for any given day could be anywhere in between 15 and 17 hundred calories for women. Just under 3000 calories per day for men. On Super Bowl Sunday, it could just be a few hours that several hundred and even thousands of calories are consumed if not careful. Not to mention the belly ache one might have later on from mixing all of the high calorie and processed foods. Your best bet, ditch the processed stuff and switch to vegetable snack offerings rather than chips. Unsalted nuts. Hummus, salsa, and guacamole instead of the nacho cheese. Chili beans instead of fried foods. And, reach for the light beer, if it’s available.
