Now, if you travel you know that our interstate highway system faces a serious and growing problem. The entire system is in great need of repair. What you may not know if that our Farm-to-Market road system is in just as much need as the interstate system. Maybe even more. The Farm-to-Market road system began back in the 1950’s. Practically every state has its own program to provide farmers with good roads and safe bridges to get their crops to market. It took a lot of money and a lot of effort, but it worked. Well now those good roads and safe bridges are wearing out. They all need costly attention. Just like the interstate system, it is going to be tough to find the necessary funds to do it. And those Farm-to-Market roads are just a vital now as they were when they were built. If you don’t believe it, ask any farmer.

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner.

Texas established this system in 1949 to provide access to rural areas. The system consists primarily of paved, two-lane roads.
