It was a gorgeous morning in Okeechobee as supporters of the Highlands County Citrus Growers Association (HCCGA) gathered for the group’s 18th annual Fun Shoot. Shortly after breakfast, shots echoed through the air as the 400 shooters in attendance began the Quail Creek Plantation clay courses. Following the shoot, everyone gathered to enjoy a delicious meal and wait for the announcement of the tournament champion. There was a tie for first place, so a shoot-off was held to determine the winner. The winner of the shoot-off was the Story Companies team, and the BRANDT team was the runner-up. After the awards were handed out, the fundraiser raffle began, followed by the live auction of an authentic, 90-pound wooden citrus crate built by Ron Lambert of Buckhorn Nursery. If you missed this year’s HCCGA Fun Shoot, be sure to put next year’s event on your calendar. It will be the second Saturday of December 2016.
