UF/IFAS Hosting Field Day at Suwanee Valley Agricultural Extension Office

LIVE OAK, Fla. — Farmers interested in row crops are invited to the Suwanee Valley Agricultural Extension Center on Monday evening, Aug. 17, to learn about best management practices.

“During this field day, we will provide an overview of the latest research that seeks to help farmers optimize nutrient and irrigation management in the different crops grown in the area,” said Elena Toro, an agriculture and natural resources extension agent.

Following an introduction by row crop extension agent Patrick Troy, some of the top researchers with the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences will give presentations, including:

– Michael Dukes–updates on new technologies available for corn nutrient and irrigation management;
– Diane Rowland and Elena Toro – overview of sesame research projects ;
– Nicholas Dufault and Keith Wynn – overview of peanut disease control programs;
– And Barry Tillman – discuss new peanut varieties.

Participants will then have a chance to ask questions before dinner is served in the pole barn.
