Brazil’s JBS SA will abandon gestation crates in its own facilities by 2016. A Company Spokesperson told Meatingplace last week they will only use collective housing for breeding sows by next year. The company did not provide a complete timeline for the change. JBS is Bazil’s second-largest pork producer. Brazil’s largest pork producer, BRF, last year announced intentions to do the same. Other companies implementing similar plans include Smithfield Foods, Hormel, Cargill and others.
