Florida cattle industry leaders and members of Florida Cattlemen’s Association gathered for their quarterly business meeting at Saddlebrook Resort in FCA Board of Directors Meeting was loaded with committee reports on issue actions and other special presentationsPasco County this week. Among numerous issues discussed and dealt with, FCA leaders crafted a letter to the Department of the Interior about its announced intention to develop three new national wildlife refuges in south Florida. left to right, Bo Hobby, Bert Tucker & Lt Governor Candidate Rod SmithDepending on how it is done the effort could have huge impact on many agricultural properties in the region. Also, several companies presented detailed information about a new crop insurance program for pasture, rangeland & forage, and USDA Farm Service Agency Director Tim Manning reviewed several programs available to cattle producers through USDA/FSA. On the political front, Lieutenant Governor Candidate Rod Smith visited among many old friends at the traditional FCA quarterly cookout. From a Florida farm and ranch background himself, Smith says he will focus on agricultural and law enforcement issues if the Sink/Smith ticket is elected, due to his strong background in both those sectors.
