Gary Cooper Citrus, Florida

Dr. Harold Browning, UF-CRECNow that University of Florida officials have confirmed Dr Harold Browning’s decision to leave the University in April and named Assistant Director Dr Jackie Burns as Acting Director of the Citrus Research and Education Center at Lake Alfred, Browning spoke to us about his planned departure. Browning’s love for the outdoors, particularly the big views of western skies is no secret to those who know him. In these two reports, Browning explains his decision, his timing, where he’s going and why, and talks about what he considers the biggest challenges to citrus in his 12 years on the job and in the future.
Officially speaking, Browning’s resignation begins a one-year leave of absence April 10, and it is said he does not plan to return to the Center as Director if he returns at all. Browning and Burns are working together toward a smooth transition.
