Southeastern Peanut Producers remind consumers that the peanut butter/peanut butter paste recall does not apply to most major brands of jar peanut butter. The recall applies to a limited amount of food products containing peanut butter or peanut butter paste.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is conducting an investigation into the source of the Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak. At this time, the FDA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and state partners have traced sources of Salmonella Typhimurium contamination to a plant owned by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). PCA manufactures peanut butter and peanut paste that are distributed to food manufacturers to be used as an ingredient in many commercially produced products including cakes, cookies, crackers, candies, cereal and ice cream.
Salmonella is a group of bacterial organisms that are the source of the most common source of food poisoning in the United States. Healthy persons infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain. It can cause serious or fatal illness in people with weak immune systems.
