USDA/APHIS Efforts to Communicate to the Masses re HLB

Gary Cooper Citrus, Florida

Each year in November we make the trip to Kansas City to the annual meeting of the National Assoc of Farm Broadcasters (NAFB), of which we are the only member from Florida. It is a must attend Ed Curlett, Public Affairs, USDA/APHISfor the 150 or so of us left doing agriculture news via the broadcast media. Southeast AgNet, by the way, broadcast multiple daily ag news headlines through about 65 radio stations throughout Florida, Georgia and Alabama. We’ve been doing it in Florida since the late 1970’s. Anyway, a highlight at the NAFB meeting is a newsmakers’ interview free-for-all we call “trade talk”, where I caught up with Ed Curlett of USDA/APHIS to discuss citrus greening (HLB) and what USDA is trying to do to pull various messaging efforts together into a nationwide informational campaign. Here his comments in these two reports.
