Lessons From Canker and Greening – A Seminar at Lake Alfred

Lake Alfred, Florida — “It’s Not Too Late to Be Early: Genetic Lessons From Canker and Greening” a seminar by Dr. Abeer Ahmed Khalaf will be presented Thursday, April 19 at 11 a.m. in the Ben Hill Griffin, Jr. Citrus Hall Teaching Lab.
Dr. Khalaf received her M.S. degree from Cairo University in Egypt. She worked as a teaching assistant at the American University in Cairo. She was awarded a Graduate Assistantship from the University of Florida’s Citrus Research and Education Center. She earned her Ph.D. degree through the Plant Molecular and Cellular Biology Program under the direction of Drs. Gloria Moore and Fred Gmitter. Her Ph.D. dissertation research focused on dissection of the genetic mechanisms of canker resistance as expressed in Nagami kumquat. Currently, she is a post-doctoral research associate at the University of Florida.
