While USDA’s Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) is the principal agency for providing conservation technical assistance to private landowners, conservation districts, tribes, and other organizations, they work cooperatively with local Soil and Water Conservation Districts to get conservation on the ground. NRCS Chief, Matt Lohr, says conservation districts are the boots on the ground.

Last month, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced the appointment of (Matthew J.) “Matt” Lohr to serve as Chief of the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). The Virginia native brings a lifetime of agriculture experience to his new post, as he is a 5th generation family farmer.
