When we last heard from Georgia State Veterinarian Dr. Robert Cobb, a three-phase process was underway for avian influenza. But being that no new cases have been found, Dr. Cobb says those testing efforts have ended and the suspension of poultry assembly in the state has been rescinded.
The Georgia Department of Agriculture has announced that a flock of chickens at a commercial poultry breeding operation located in Chattooga County, Georgia has tested positive for H7, presumptive low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI). According to the department’s release, this is the first confirmation of avian influenza in domestic poultry in Georgia.
