Research has been underway the past couple of seasons of spraying peanut fields at night, as University of Georgia’s Albert Culbreath updates their findings.
The Georgia Peanut Commission hosted their 22nd annual Peanut Tour with attendees from across the globe. The two day event crossed the southern part of Georgia with a variety of stops including farming operations, research plots and production plants. The tour also included a stop at Jimmy Carter’s boyhood home where the former President welcomed the attendees and spoke about his experiences as farmer and diplomat. Attendees ranged from fellow farmers eager to learn more about research findings to represenatives from Kraft Foods excited to see the production side of the peanut industry.
The Georgia Peanut Farm Tour is taking place this week as Tyron Spearman has an update from there and also looks at how the peanut harvest is going thus far here in the Southeast.
A peanut/cotton field day was held yesterday near Tifton, Georgia and UGA’s John Beasley said he felt good about the peanut crop as harvest gets underway.

Georgia cotton and peanut growers should be planning to attend the combined Cotton and Peanut Research Tour at the UGA Tifton campus on Wednesday, September 10 starting at 9 am.
Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer announced that USDA’s Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) will issue $82 million in final 2007 counter-cyclical payments (CCP) to eligible producers with enrolled peanut base acres in the Direct and Counter-cyclical Program (DCP). The Georgia Cotton Commission and the Georgia Peanut Commission have teamed up to offer a research tour for growers of both crops coming up on September 10 in Tifton.
