Late last month, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced it was establishing the U.S. Domestic Hemp Production Program, which creates a consistent regulatory framework around hemp production throughout the United States. Under Secretary for Farm Production and Conservation Bill Northey has more details about the new program.
An interim final rule formalizing the program has been published in the Federal Register, and USDA invites public comments on the interim rule and the information collection burden. Once state and tribal plans are in place, hemp producers will be eligible for a number of USDA programs. For information on available programs, visit farmers.gov/hemp.
